Carbon Fibre Plant at Hazira
In pursuit of our commitment to decarbonize our operations and our vision for New Materials, we are embarking on the construction of India’s inaugural and one of the world’s largest carbon fibre plants in Hazira. This facility will boast a production capacity of 20,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA), relying on Acrylonitrile feedstock. Our objective is ambitious yet clear: to secure a position among the top three global players in both carbon fibre and carbon fibre reinforced plastic composites. The first phase of this venture is slated for completion by 2025, equipped with the flexibility to manufacture highly profitable specialty grades tailored to diverse end-use applications.
Integration with Wind Turbine Manufacturing
Our venture into large-scale carbon fibre production holds a strategic advantage in the realm of wind turbine manufacturing. Recognizing carbon fibre as a significant cost driver in the production of wind blades, we anticipate significant cost reduction opportunities through vertical integration.
Applications and Growth Potential
Carbon fibre and its composites are poised to address the burgeoning demand for lightweight solutions across mobility and renewable energy sectors. This material stands as a pivotal driver for sustained growth within our Oil-to-Chemicals business, with projections extending across multiple decades.
Sustainability Initiatives
Underpinning our initiatives is a staunch commitment to sustainability, anchored in a circular economy approach. As leaders in PET and plastics recycling within India, we are set to double our bottle recycling capacity to an impressive 5 billion bottles per year. Furthermore, our innovative chemical recycling pathway promises to convert waste plastics into valuable refinery feedstock. In tandem, our research endeavors are geared towards the development of biodegradable and compostable plastics, with the ultimate aim of replacing single-use plastics. These concerted efforts propel us towards our overarching goal: global leadership in recycling and sustainable materials production.
This statement outlines a strategic initiative by the company to establish India’s first large-scale carbon fiber plant at Hazira, with an annual capacity of 20,000 metric tonnes. Here’s an analysis of the key points made in the statementhe carbon fiber plant is scheduled for completion by 2025, indicating a relatively rapid implementation timeline. The plant’s flexibility to produce specialty grades suggests adaptability to varying market demands and potentially higher profit margins from specialized products.
